Root your phone

I found this on http://crazyedy.com/tech/?p=521 and copied it here so I could always find it.
1.) Download update.zip from this post.
2.) Plug your Samsung Galaxy S phone into your computer using the usb cable that came with your phone.
3.) Mount your sdcard up to your computer.
4.) Once you have the sdcard up on your computer, just copy the update.zip file onto your sdcard.
5.) Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S.
6.) Once the phone is turned off, press and hold down both the up and down volume buttons on the side of the phone and press the power button to turn your phone back on.
7.) Your phone will boot into a recovery menu. Using the volume down button to highlight the “Reinstall Packages” menu option, then press the power button to start the install.
8.) Your phone will install the update.zip onto your phone and it will reboot. Once the phone boots up, your phone will then be Rooted.
